The city of Danbury is home to the second largest mall in Connecticut; The Danbury Fair Mall.  The mall was once home to the Danbury Fair (1821-1981). The fair was an annual event in the city of Danbury, which ended in 1981 due to the death of one of the founders. The family didn’t want to continue the tradition, and last event was held in October of 1981. Shortly after, a mall was constructed at the old location of the fair. The mall would open doors in 1986, and houses a carousel in its food court. Today the mall has over 200 retail stores and four anchor stores. Memorial Weekend Walk – The Weston 5K Road Race

Looking for some exercise this memorial day weekend? Consider participating in the 23rd annual ‘Weston Memorial Day Weekend 5K Road Race and Walk’. Walk or run through a beautiful stretch through both historic and residential Weston. The race begins at 8:30am on Saturday, May 28th. The race is the biggest fundraiser of the year for The Weston High School, which also serves as the starting and ending location of the race. In addition to the race and walk, there is also a running event for kids being held simultaneously, including a 100 meter sprint (the home “straight”), a 400 meter run (one lap of the track), a 1600 meter /1-mile run (4 laps around the track), and even an inflatable obstacle course. Local Fundraisers – Derby’s ‘Walk for the Hungry and Homeless’

If you’re looking for something to do with the family this weekend, sign up for the 19th Annual Walk for the Hungry & Homeless in Derby. A scenic 3.4 mile walk along the Naugatuck River, the event begins this Saturday May 21st at 9am, rain or shine. The event is $20 to register and all proceeds go to the fundraiser. Spooner House Executive Director Susan Agamy says, “The annual walk is an important event not just for raising critical funds for Spooner House, but for increasing awareness about the issues facing our neighbors, friends, and community and finding ways we can come together to improve people’s lives.” Derby wants to raise $19,000 this year, compared to last year’s $11,000.
