Moving into a new home is one of the most exciting experiences because it gives you the opportunity to start fresh. For children this could mean a new school with new friends and a bigger backyard with plenty of space for games. For adults it is a bit different, moving forces you to evaluate everything you keep in your home and decide what is to be done with it. Follow these tips to clean out and organize your home right now so when Seamen’s Moving comes not only will you save money because of less boxes but your new house will be clutter free for new memories to be made.
Tips:
– If you know you will be moving in the future, there is a simple way of keeping track of which clothes you actually wear and those that have become forgotten in your closet. Make sure all clothing on hangers is facing the opposite direction (the open part facing you), when you take an article out flip the hanger to the regular direction. With time you will notice that some of the hangers remain facing the opposite direction, these are clothes that you could donate, sell, or pass along to friends or family.
– Look through those piles (or mountains!) of stuff that have been taking up space in your garage, attic, basement, or shed. Undoubtedly you will find a few long lost items that you want to keep but the majority of these things have sat there unused for some time. These should be candidates for a garage sale or donating to your local charity.
– Paper is one of the biggest menaces to having a clean and organized home. Go through those cabinets, drawers, and baskets, take everything out (don’t forget about magazines) and lie it on the table. Artwork from the kids, cut outs from the newspaper covering significant events, and crucial documents should be set aside. Make a box for each child, another one for the sentimental items, and a final box with the highly important documents you might need in the future. For everything else, recycle it! You will be amazed at how quickly you are able to cut down on clutter.
– Old technology is another common culprit taking up space seemingly everywhere. Those old VHS tapes haven’t been watched in nearly a decade and the box television weighs 100 pounds making it not even worth trying to move to your new home. Look through all those mysterious wires and see if any of them actually work with the electronic devices you currently use. Ask your kids if they play any old games or if you can make a donation so that other children can enjoy them.
