Moving can be strenuous on your body because of the awkward shape of various things around your house. Even if you are only moving boxes you might wake up feeling the effects the morning after. Our team at Seamen’s Moving is professionally trained on best practices so that we can get the truck loaded and unloaded in record time while get to sit back and relax. If you decide that you are up to the task yourself here are a few important points to remember that will make the move easier all around.
- Lay out everything that you think will go into one box before putting it in
- When loading the box, start with the heavier and more stable items on the bottom putting lighter goods on top
- Don’t pack the box to the absolute maximum! While this might seem like a good idea to reduce the number of boxes you are going to have to carry it and you don’t want the box to break
- Securely tape each box closed and label it with what it contains, make sure that FRAGILE is written in big letters on the top and side if anything that could be broken is inside
- Ensure proper technique when lifting the boxes! This means bending your legs and keeping your back straight when picking the boxes off of the ground
- When carrying the boxes hold securely from the bottom against your chest instead of the sides so they don’t accidently slip through your hands
- Don’t try to be a hero and carry too many boxes at once, multiple trips are better than a sore back and no one wants to the wine glasses because the bottom box with the books was too heavy
- Make sure to take a break and stay hydrated, it is not a marathon and despite what you might have been told your new house is not going to run away
- OR just Hire Seamen’s Moving and don’t worry about anything you just read!
