Founded by Larry Aldrich in 1964, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is dedicated to fostering the work of innovative artists whose interpretations of the world around us serve as a platform to encourage creative thinking. The Aldrich is one of the few independent, non-collecting contemporary art museums in the United States and the only museum in Connecticut devoted to contemporary art, and engages its diverse audiences with thought-provoking, interdisciplinary exhibitions and programs.

Music Of The Night Gala

Tickets are now on sale for the Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s annual Spring Gala! This year’s Gala is titled “Music of The Night” and will feature Phantom of The Opera’s Mark Jacoby (Phantom) & Kathy Voytko (Christine) as well as appearances by members of STONC’s Singin’ In The Rain cast. In addition, the evening will honor iconic actress and singer Jane Powell, whose film career included movies such as Royal Wedding (1951) with Fred Astaire, A Date with Judy (1948) with friend Elizabeth Taylor, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) with Howard Keel. In addition to film, Jane had a prolific theater and television career.​
The event will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 13th at Woodway Country Club in Darien, CT. The cocktail reception will be begin at 6 pm, followed by dinner at 7 pm and a show at 8:30 pm. To purchase tickets, please visit www.stonc.org​​.​

Stamford, CT (February 1, 2017) – “Organic Metropolis” is a collaborative exhibition of two different genres by two diverse artists. Yuko Ike, a painter, and Lucienne Buckner, a sculptor, will combine, contrast and collaborate their talents in a “dual solo” show. The exhibit will run from May 6 through June 11in the Loft Artists Association East Gallery at 575 Pacific Street in Stamford, CT.  An Opening Reception will be held on Saturday May 6, from 6 to 8 pm.

Westport Historical Society Workshop: Tax Credit For Historic Preservation

On Saturday, May 20, Alyssa Lozupone, Architectural Preservationist of the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office, will provide an overview of The Historic Homes Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program with a Workshop here at the Historical Society.  The workshop will run from 10am to noon.

Ms. Lozupone will explain the application process and examples of rehabilitation work. The workshop will provide homeowners all the tools they need to put together a successful Tax Credit application. Marc Lotti, who is using the tax credit on his Westport home, will be available for questions.

Part of RIFF’s Meet The Filmmaker Series – Shallow Waters: the Public Death of Raymond Zack. Memorial Day, San Francisco Bay. A fully dressed man walks into the cold shallow waters off a public beach, and waits as the tide rises. Curious beach-combers watch the man, and wait. Police and Fire units arrive, watch and wait. The sand in the man’s hourglass runs out while everybody waits. …for what? and why? Screening followed by discussion with filmmaker Jaime Longhi.

Join Ted Gilman for our weekly spring bird walks at Audubon Greenwich! The preserve’s open fields, apple orchard, wetlands and woodlands provide great habitat for migrating birds such as warblers, vireos, tanagers, thrushes, orioles and others. Binoculars will be available for those who don’t have them.

Art America–160 Years In The Making

The New Canaan Historical Society is pleased to announce its new exhibit “Art America–160 Years in the Making” with an opening reception on Friday, April 28th at 6:00 pm.  The exhibit features 50 works of art representing major styles, subjects and art colonies in America from over nearly two centuries.  Scattered throughout the exhibit are mannequins viewing a particular piece of art dressed in the attire of that period of time. The Historical Society’s extensive costume collection made this concept a reality.  It is interesting to see what a patron of the arts might look like back in the day.

The exhibit was made possible by the generosity of a town resident, Thomas Davies, who has been collecting these works of art for over 40 years.  Mr. Davies published a book describing his 400 paintings and the stories behind the artists and how the paintings came to his collection.  His book Collecting Stories, published in 2008, will be available for purchase.

Bunk down among the sharks, crabs, jellies and other creatures on Fri., May 5 when The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk hosts a special “sleeping with the fishes” Family Sleepover.

This fun night is open to children age 5 & older with an accompanying parent or caregiver over age 18.

After check-in at 6 p.m. and a tasty dinner of chicken tenders, fries and penne, we’ll fill your evening with a fun- and fact-filled behind-the-scenes tour of the Aquarium, an IMAX® movie, snacks and themed crafts.

“Lights out” is at 10 p.m. Participants sleep in sleeping bags (BYOSB) throughout the Aquarium galleries. Air mattresses are allowed for adults.

Breakfast the next morning is at 8 a.m., followed by a private seal show. You’ll be on your way home by 10 a.m. on the 6th.

Advance registration is required. Space is limited to 100 participants and expected to fill up fast.

Join Westport Historical Society on Saturday, May 13, from 3 to 4pm, for one of its most popular walking tours, a stroll through Old Saugatuck accompanied by guide Bob Mitchell. The one-hour tour begins at 3:00 pm and ends with a drink on the house at one of Saugatuck’s favorite haunts, the Black Duck.

As you make your way through the neighborhood that sits along the tracks near the Westport train station, Mitchell will discuss Saugatuck’s past as a manufacturing hub and the tight-knit, predominantly Italian community it was to become. Most of what we now know as Westport was once called Saugatuck, after the river, though when the town was incorporated in 1835 from parts of Norwalk and Fairfield, it was given the name Westport.
