You might miss this 18th century architectural artifact in passing, but take a second look! The Mather Homestead, located on Darien’s Brookside Road, was built in a secluded location in hopes of keeping it safe from the British Raids common at the time. Locals entrusted valuables and keepsakes with the Mathers family, who would hide them in various locations on the property. This didn’t stop the British though, who made the trek to the home in 1782, stealing supplies and valuables despite the Mather’s attempts to conceal the property.
