Drunk Driving is a serious issue in communities across the nation.  In an effort to address the matter at hand, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) hosts 5K events in 60 cities across the nation.  MADD will be hosting an event locally in Fairfield, CT this year on October 22^nd.  Support for the event can be shown through registering as a walker in the event, signing up as a virtual walker, or by simply making a donation.  All proceeds from the event will be put forth in an effort to prevent drunk driving injuries and support the heroic law enforcement that keeps Connecticut safe.  Don’t drink and drive! On October 16^th, the Greenwich Historical Society will be hosting its annual Fall Festival.  This year’s festival will have a Japanese influence.  Some of the activities offered at the event will be kite making, face painting and demonstrations of traditional Japanese dance and martial arts.  Additionally, a tour of the historic Bush-Holley House (Est. 1732) will be offered.  As is tradition at the event, attendees can also participate in the annual scarecrow-making competition. Chowdafest, presented by Stop & Shop, will be held on October 2 from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT.  Chowdafest is one of the largest chowder and soup competitions in New England.  The festival includes chowders and soups from all over the country; additionally, every New England state is represented in the competition.  Attendees submit their votes to determine New England’s best clam chowder, the best Manhattan and Rhode Island clam chowders, the best creative chowder and the best soup or bisque.  If you’re looking to move to the area and try some unbelievable chowders, call us to set up a free estimate! read more

On October 1^st at 4:30 PM, horse drawn carriages will lead a march through Rowayton, CT to kick off the 4^th Annual Oktoberfest Fundraiser.  The event will include German foods such as bratwurst, roasted chicken, pork shank, hashed potatoes, thick pretzels and, of course, beer.  Event goers are encouraged to participate in the dancing and singing of “Ein Prosit” throughout the night.  At the end of the night, the dance floor will evolve into a flash mob dance party.  This event will raise money for the RCA which gives back to the community in the form of grants for elementary, Middle and High Schools, the local Little League, and the public Library.  This event is 21+.  If you, family, or friends are moving to the area, be sure to give Seamen’s Moving a call. read more

There’s only a month left of a very neat exhibit currently running at the Darien historical society. Called “Darien 1925-1950: Golden Age of Art and Design”, the event covers the legacy and work of local artists from that era. One of the major attractions in the exhibit is the section on Darien’s “Guild of the Seven Arts”. The exhibit looks at how the development of Magazines, Victrolas, and radios created an artistic boom in the area, many of which headed to Darien! The guild was the second artist’s guild formed in New England, and it continues to impact Darien’s culture today. The Den is the largest preserve in Fairfield County. It’s also one of the most popular, with over 40,000 visitors a year. It is named for a spooky marking in a large stone on the preserve; charcoal makers in the area used to say the hoof-like mark was made by the devil himself. The site is said to have been used as a hunting ground for the Native Americans as long as 5000 years ago. Some of the wildlife that can be found there includes bobcats, coyotes, copperhead snakes, red foxes, as well as a large variety of birds and waterfowl. The location was even used as a hideout at one point! In April of 1777, residents of Weston and Redding hid in the preserve to evade British troops sent to the area to destroy a military supply depot in Danbury.
