The Westport Historical Society will be hosting tours of Old Mill at Compo Cove, on Sundays July 31^st and August 21^st. The cove is the inspiration for the exhibit “the beautiful POND”. The tour will be led by artist Judith Orseck Katz and Robin Tauck of Tauck Tours. The tour is a great way to see the beautiful bridges, marshes, plants and animals around the mill house. Tours will begin at the Guard Booth in Old Mill Beach Parking lot, and there will be a $10 donation. Fairfield county is home to many beautiful sights like Compo Cove. The Darien Summer Nights Concert Series Offers a number of different free musical performances from local and out-of-town artists. Upcoming performers include Gunsmoke, Group Therapy, and Doug Allen. The concert series was started by two Darien residents who wanted to give back to their community during the uncertain times of the 2008 recession. The concerts are free, and all the hosts ask for in return is for guests to please support local businesses. Their goal was to keep downtown Darien the thriving hub of commerce that it is today. Ridgefield Playhouse will hold a screening of Muhammed Ali: The Whole Story on August 21 at 6:30. The documentary was produced and directed by the EMMY-award winning team of Sandra and Joseph Consentino. It explores central issues surrounding the famous athlete’s life, including his most famous fights and his controversial stands on political issues. After the film, there will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers and with Ali’s daughter, Rasheda Ali. Have you ever wanted to touch a jellyfish? Well now you can, or at least until January 31^st. The “Jiggle a Jelly” exhibit at the Norwalk Aquarium allows guests to touch live moon jellyfish, which are one of the most common species in Long Island Sound. Most people know to avoid jellyfish when swimming in the ocean to avoid a painful sting. But this exhibits shows that there are some jellyfish out there that you can touch without being hurt. Admission to the exhibit is free with a ticket to the aquarium. Additionally, you can view a few different species of jellyfish at a gallery in a different part of the building. Come see the traveling exhibition “Science and Motion: The Photographic Studies of Edward Muybridge, Harold Edgerton and Berenice Abbott” at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich! The event runs from July 16 thru October 16. Thanks to Bank of America’s Art in Our Communities program, you can see the interesting possibilities where art and science collide. The contributions of the three artist-scientists featured are numerous. Muybridge’s’ stop-motion photographs of a horse running allowed for early studies in animal locomotion. Abbott served as a photography editor for science illustrated. Edgerton had the amazing accomplishment of both teaching at MIT and having artwork featured at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
