Fairfield Theatre Company Presents: Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular

Unleash the Hounds – Newtown’s Off-Leash Dog Park

Newtown Parks & Recreation presented the 6th Annual Howl-O-Ween event at Park and Bark, the town’s fenced dog park at Fairfield Hills, on Halloween.

In 2009, Newtown dog owner’s banded together to establish Newtown’s first off-leash dog park. With over 1850 dogs registered in Newtown Connecticut, yearly fundraisers like “Strutt Your Mutt” and “Howloween” of gone a long way towards supporting the park. The park is just over two acres of land, and includes a separate section for older dogs or more timid dogs, as well as agility course elements to engage energetic canines. The park is free and open to the public, and it’s a great place to visit whether you’re a dog-owner or a dog-lover (especially if you’re both). The Gores Pavilion in New Canaan

We’ve talked about the Harvard 5 and their influence on modern Architecture, and today we’re taking a look at another one of their intriguing projects. Constructed in 1960 and designed by Landis Gores, the Gores Pavilion was intended to be a combination pool house and lodge for Jack Irwin (the US ambassador to France) and his wife Jane Watson (daughter of IBM’s founder). In 2005 the building was nearly demolished when the land was sold to the town to create a public park, but the home was ultimately saved thanks to help of New Canaan Historical Society supporters as well as matching government grants. Check out ‘The Hidden Life of Ants’, an exhibit currently running at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. The exhibit features a variety of artwork and models of ants and their habitats. It also features lives animals, including 2 ant formicaries (farms) and as well as other live animals that eat ants.
