Ever wondered where Connecticut’s state recognizable state tune, “Yankee Doodle Dandy”, came about? During the French and Indian War, a group of ragtag Norwalk soldiers gathered to support British troops at Fort Crailo, New York. But as they were gathering in the yard of Col. Thomas Fitch (son of the governor, also Thomas Finch), the young women of the town were troubled by the men’s lack of uniform. With makeshift plumes made of chicken feathers, the men marched to New York in their makeshift uniforms. The British added new lines to a popular tune at the time, “Lucy Locket”, referencing the rag-tag bunch of Norwalk soldiers.
