Looking for a good hike in the Trumbull area? Check out the Old Mine Park, a historic site that was once home to short-lived mining operation. While the mine primarily produced Tungsten, many other minerals and crystals have been found there as well, including beryl, opal, topaz, tourmaline and 60 others. The site became a park in 1940 after the land was claimed by the state. You can still see the meter thick veins in certain areas of the park. Featuring an 11-mile hiking trail, a picnic area, a bridge over the Pequonnock River, and an open field, the park is a great place to spend  a summer day with friends or family.
