First established in Repton, Connecticut, in 1740, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church brought together Anglican services in the area. The Repton area would later become Ripton, and later Huntington as it is known today. But in 1811, townsman Sidney Deforest attempted to rid the church’s belfry of pigeons by shooting them with his musket. While Sidney did manage to remove the pigeons, he also burned down the church with the tow wadding from his musket in the process. A few years later, the church was built atop the same site and still stands today (pigeon-free). If you need to move out of your pigeon-infested home, don’t pull out your musket.
