First opened in 1912, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich has been a great local spot to learn about the art, history, and culture of the area. The Museum used to a mansion, owned by textile merchant Robert Moffat Bruce. After his dead, Bruce gave his mansion to the town to be used “as a natural history, historical and art museum, for the use and benefit of the public.” The first exhibit at the museum featured the Greenwich Society of Artists, who still exist today. From 1992-1993, the museum underwent heavy restoration with an architectural structure built around the original building. Current exhibits cover the history of electricity, the art of Paris, children’s book artwork, and photography of the local Mianus River Gorge (north of Greenwich).
